Editor-in-Chief

Generation Waking Up, a global campaign to ignite a generation of young people to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world, is seeking an Editor.

Your purpose in this position will be to manage  a successful and robust Generation Waking Up Blog, along with its community of regular blog contributors.

Location: Work from home. Bay Area local a plus.
Type of Position: Volunteer – roughly 10 hours a week.
Application Deadline: Open till filled
Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation: Unpaid

At Generation Waking Up, we deeply recognize the value of Story and its ability to ignite a movement to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world. A key medium through which we plan to spread these stories is our blog.

Here are some resources we recommend that understand our approach to story-based movement building

Your job as Editor-in-Chief will be to manage and run a blog that captures powerful stories from a diverse and global community of contributors that will inspire others to bring forth a thriving, just, and sustainable world.


WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE

On a day-to-day basis, you will find your work to be diverse and engaging.  You will be:

  • Creating the foundation and structure for the blog (including number, frequency, and types of stories )

  • Being the final editorial check on all stories before they are published – checking copy for errors and inaccuracies, editing to maximize search engine capability, and making light and heavy editing decisions as needed

  • Building, managing and liaising with our diverse community of contributors from around the globe

  • Creating a ‘blogging best practices’ guide for blog contributors that captures GenUp’s unique voice and blogging style

  • Contributing your own stories to the blog


WHO WILL BE ON YOUR TEAM

  • You will be working closely with Piya Banerjee, Core Team Member accountable for Communications.

  • A team of volunteer bloggers, each of whom will be submitting one blog post per month.

HOW YOU WILL KNOW YOU ARE A FIT

You will know that you are highly qualified for this position by the extent to which the following describes you:

  • You are inspired by Generation Waking Up’s mission to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world and recognize the role of Story in building that movement

  • You have significant writing and editorial experience

  • You are skilled with WordPress or similar online blogging platforms.

  • You are detail-oriented, with a great eye for spelling, grammar, and designing/publishing copy for the web.

You will know that you are an exceptional fit for this position by the extent to which this describes you:

  • You have some web design/html skills

  • You have some experience with search engine maximization

  • You have Adobe Photoshop skills

  • You live in the Bay Area (added bonus only)
